Plant In Focus: Hoya carnosa

A blast from the past.

Hoyas, also known as Wax Plants or Porcelain Flowers, have become popular again in recent years, and for good reason. It’s a relatively easy-to-care for succulent that has a low water requirement.

Hoya carnosa produce woody stems, waxy green leaves and under the right conditions, a cluster of star-shaped flowers in shades of white, pink and red. These flowers produce a sweet fragrance, which some can find overpowering when grown indoors.

Care wise, your Hoya can survive in a range of lighting conditions but if you want it to bloom, you’ll need a good three to six hours of bright indirect light daily. As a tropical plant, it will appreciate added warmth and humidity. They also enjoy being a tad rootbound, so take that into consideration when potting.

Like the sound of that, search for it in our app and love heart the plant to save to your favourites. Already a proud owner? Add it to your ‘My Plants’ section for quick access to it’s detailed care guides.
