Deep Winter Check Up: Keeping Your Plants Happy in the Cold

Hey there plant lovers! Winter has settled over Australia, and our precious houseplants are feeling the chill. Gloomy clouds can make our leafy friends feel a bit down in the dumps. Telltale signs are drooping leaves, brown edges, or worse, leaf drop. Don’t beat yourself up, they may just be taking a little break, preparing for Spring!

Your plants are doing their best to stay healthy and are relying on you for the assist. Here are some Winter lovin' tips to help them survive and thrive until the sun comes out again.

Shedding Light on the Situation

Try playing the 'Window Shuffle'. Move your plants closer to windows or any spot that catches those precious rays. Let there be (artificial) light! Consider adding grow lights to your plant party. They'll give your green pals the lighting they crave, even when the clouds refuse to cooperate.

The Art of H2O

During Winter, plants go into low-key mode, which means they need less water. With the exception of Ferns and some tropical beauts, the majority of your plants should only be watered once they’re completely dry. Don't drown them in love. It’s also important your pots have proper drainage.

Not sure how best to provide the right watering routine or an appropriate position in your home? Our plant sensors will help you out. They know exactly when your plants need to be watered and if they’re getting sufficient energy to grow!

Humidity Hacks

Winter heating can make the air as dry as the Sahara, leaving your plants craving a tropical getaway. Help them stay hydrated with these humidity tricks.

Plant Party Time: Group your plants together so they can have a good old humidity huddle. They'll thank you for it!

Mist Magic and Pebble Parties: Give your plants a spritz or place them on trays with water and pebbles. It's like a mini-humidifier spa treatment for them. Check out our video guides for a full walkthrough.

Trim and Treat

Winter is a great time for a little plant pampering. Show your plants some love with a little grooming session. Trim any sad-looking or dead leaves to make room for fresh growth. Your plants will thank you with a dazzling comeback. Winter hideouts are also prime real estate for pesky bugs. Keep an eye out for critters like spider mites or mealybugs and evict them ASAP.

Remember, brighter days are just around the corner, waiting to bathe your plants in sunshine. Keep smiling, keep nurturing, and keep your houseplants happy and healthy all year round.
