The Willow Sensors measure some of the most critical factors for your plant’s wellbeing. These readings are compared against our database to ensure your plant is living in its optimal conditions to thrive.
If and when it’s time for action, we reach out with a notification and support this with our plant score. Let's get to know these features in a bit more detail.
Context, a few things to consider

A single point-in-time reference isn’t of too much value
At 8:00am my plant is bathing in morning light; I take a measurement and it’s off the charts. Oh no! Not necessarily. A plant in a south facing window (southern hemisphere) may enjoy the morning sunshine directly for a short period. But for the rest of the day, it’s not going to receive much light.
At 1:33pm my plant was sitting comfortable in a 25°C environment. Great. But at 7:00pm, it was cold at 8°C. Oh no! right? Not exactly. Plants can be fickle, but they are a little hardier than that. It’s about how long the plant was outside of its preferred conditions.
This is why our sensors are continuously measuring and reviewing.

A lack of reference points
Consider the above points but from a soil moisture perspective. I take a standard hydrometer and get a reading of 6 or perhaps 60%. Is that good or bad? Does my plant like being wet or dry? How long has it been at 6? Is it growing or dormant season?
Willow knows all of this and provides personalised care for your plant.
So, what does Willow provide?
We contextualise the raw data and provide a summary in your Plant Overview section to make things simple for you!
Here, you will find the latest measurement from your Willow Sensor along with a visual cue for each individual reading to let you know if your plant is comfy or if something is bothering them.

Above the individual measures you will find a Plant Happiness Score - an algorithm developed to truly let you know how your plant is feeling. Your score considers these four measures over time and your responses to the alerts.
A score of 100 and your plant is comfortable and sitting in mint conditions 👌
Your score will decline if:
- Your plant is exposed to conditions either too hot or too cold for too long (temperature)
- The air around your plant is too moist or too dry for too long (humidity)
- Your plant is exposed to too bright or too dark conditions for too long (light)
- Your soil is too wet or too dry for too long (soil moisture)
If your plant has been exposed to worrisome conditions for too long, you will receive a plant notification:

Too many of the same notification, and we will recommend making some changes. A guide for the correct light, temp, and humidity offers further direction.
Shedding some further light
Measuring things such as distance (cm, m, km) or temperature (°C) is a bit of a no brainer. Light on the other hand may be new to you. In the plant overview, we display your Lux reading - which looks at the amount or intensity of light that falls on an area.

As a broad generalisation, you would like your plant to get several hours of light around the 2000+ lux mark.
