Three Easy Plants for Laidback Plant Parents

Keen for some (or more) plants, but prefer a laidback, no-frills approach to plant parenting? Here are 3 species that won’t take up much time or effort.

Spider Plants

This one’s for those of you who have plenty of sun in their home and just want to water something once or twice a month.

Chlorophytum, aka spider plants, love to grow in almost any type of conditions. They thrive in neglect and don’t need a lot of fertiliser to look green and lush.

The best part about Spider Plants is that they create their own babies. Spiderettes form at the end of runners where you can pick off, place them in water or soil, and grow a new plant. How good!

Philodendron burle marx

A stunning little philo! These grow well in low light situations, grow nice volumes of foliage, and don’t need much for food or water (but they do need some, so keep your eye out for thirst and fertiliser alerts if you have a Willow Sensor).

They also root easily; don’t shy away from taking the scissors out and snipping off some cuttings.

For those of you with a Sensor paired up to this type of philo in a low light placement, switch your Growth Goal on the plant’s profile to Survive to avoid recurring low light alerts.

Syngoniums

Commonly known as Arrowhead vines or Goosefoot, these plants are popular houseplants due to their easy care needs.

They handle drought better than most plants so if you forget to water, it won’t be disastrous – unless you keep forgetting, of course.

Syngoniums come in a WHOLE lot of different colours, shapes and growth habits so you can always count on them to add that splash of colour to your home. They also don’t need a ton of sunlight and make for full and healthy vining plants. If you’ve got a bare windowsill you’d like to fill up, this is a great choice.
