First up, a big thank you to all for sharing your thoughts on our app. We’re committed to constant improvement and your insights help us get there, including planning for future updates.
December has been crazy busy for our development team rolling out two big updates. We wanted to make sure you haven’t missed any new features and so here we are.
Fair warning: This is going to be a bit of a loooooong article so for those in a rush the tl;dr version:
- Pair multiple Hubs to your profile; perfect for the plant mamas and papas with a growing collection
- Choose your soil type when adding a plant, for improved soil moisture analysis and watering care
- Have it your way with preferences for notification muting, bedtime mode and a choice between Celsius and Fahrenheit
- Plant score makeover with clearer distinctions and localised times
Multiple Hubs
Huuuge news for those with house jungles, urban forests, or jungalows. Yes, a single Hub can pair up to 40 sensors. But for those like Hilton Carter, with 180 plants and growing, we needed another boost. Even with the Bluetooth improvements, the great Australian dream and the ever-popular double brick homes can also cause a bit of a havoc.
In response, the latest app release allows users to pair multiple Hubs to their account. A Hub for upstairs and down or perhaps living areas and bedrooms.

Soil Type
For a lot of budding plant parents, their plant remains potted in the standard potting mix. Convenient, yes, and the quality is definitely improving year in, year out. This mix usually consists of organic materials with added perlite and coir. It gets the job done but does have the added risk of saturated root systems leading to root rot for some species.
Which is why, many have their thick-rooted plants such orchids, philodendrons, or anthuriums in light, oxygen rich mixes with a base of chunky bark. Plants with thinner, more delicate roots are often planted in finer mixes with a base of peat moss and succulents in a mix of extra sand and gravel for added drainage.
To help Willow take better care for your plants, provide the medium you use when adding a plant. This is easily done by selecting the soil when adding a new plant or by editing any existing plants.

Mute Notifications
Our Willow Sensors are constantly measuring and reviewing your plants overall conditions. We provide an alert when your plant has been exposed to worrisome conditions for too long. Too many of the same notification, and we will recommend making some changes. A guide for the correct light, temp, and humidity offers further direction.
However, we also know that for some, these conditions can’t be improved. For example:
- You may have a plant that is toxic to your furry ones and so can only be kept tucked away.
- You may live in a house with largely south-facing windows (southern hemisphere), which only offer some morning light.
- You may need an additional boost of humidity for your tropic plants but still exploring your options.
- Perhaps, there’s a weeklong storm where you know your plants won’t get much light.
Head to your preferences section and you can toggle on and off alerts for individual plants.

With bedtime mode activated, alerts are muted between the hours of 10pm and 6am, allowing you to get your beauty sleep and start the day ready for action.

Plant Score
Out with the old and in with the new. Our UI for the plant score had a makeover to make it clearer what your plant is currently strugglingly with or just how happy your plant is with its surrounds.

Last, But Not Least
We now have Willowers across 27 countries, which is a feat we are extremely proud of and look forward to growing and better connecting our community. For now, we want to make sure we’re communicating in your language and so within the app, your plant score is communicated in your local time, and you have the choice for your temperature care guides to be in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Stay tuned as there’s plenty more to come! Our Thrive subscription will be available in the new year and is loaded with extras to improve your care and truly have your plants thriving.
