Repositioning Your Willow Sensor

You may have recently rotated your plant to avoid leggy growth and needed to reposition the Sensor to face your light source or perhaps you’ve changed the battery or simply taken it out to show your plant some TLC.

After moving the Sensor, you’ve noticed your data and moisture chart have changed by a little or a lot – not to worry.

Why can moisture levels change when I move my Sensor?

The growing media for your plants can consist of a variety of materials such as soil, peat moss, orchid bark, vermiculite and perlite etc. which all have varying properties.

Depending on the sensor position, it may be against large roots or bark

In watering your plant, the moisture doesn’t flow through your potting mix evenly but rather interacts with each of these materials in a different manner. Sometimes, it can even remain trapped in small air pockets.

Different spots in your pot may show different levels of moisture

What Should I do…

If the moisture levels are higher after repositioning?

The higher value indicates your potting mix at that spot still has plenty of moisture for your plant to absorb and so it is best to hold off watering your plant until Willow lets you know it’s time to do so.

Likewise, if you have received a notification but unsure if your plant is truly thirsty, you may move it and wait for a new notification to be on the safe side.

If the moisture levels are lower after repositioning?

This would mean more water was present at the older spot than the new one. Still best to wait for Willow to notify you that your plant is thirsty before providing a further watering session.
